appleinsider.com — A forthcoming update to Apple's MacBook Pro line will usher in a generation of more vibrant and uniformly-colored notebook displays thanks to some new underlying backlight technology. Confirming an earlier but widely discounted report, faithful industry sources say the new pro-oriented systems will mark the start of a gradual transition.

Gradual transition is hardly next-gen. Not to say that a brighter backlight would be much appreciated, just don't over-use the buzzwords.

What are you getting for your Macbook that comes 2k? Bought one for my sister with 1GB+ Ram and it was about 1200...

"The problem with brighter displays (LCD anyway) is that the brighter it is, the lower the contrast ratio becomes. LCD panels are NEVER able to block light completely, and with brighter backlights more light leaks through so blacks become even more gray, and lighter colors (say the brightest 10%) all look the same.If Apple go with LED backlights this problem won't be as bad as the brightness of individual sections of the panel can be controlled (and there'll be a battery saving too), fingers crossed."Well no one, who does graphics, uses LCD monitors anyway.

"Well no one, who does graphics, uses LCD monitors anyway"that's a sweeping statement, isn't it? I do graphics, and i've used LCD for years.

"I don't see anyone talking about how HP will be using the same screens as well."Or the fact that Sony already does.http://reviews.digitaltrends.com/review3218.html

This is useless. Mac laptops are already as bright as they need to be. I run mine at 4 bars out of 16 most of the time.Just concentrate on better battery life, please.

I'm with you ROT, I also have a PB12"I want a pro laptop but I do love how small the PB is. Its great that is ultra portable so I can take it with me. What sucks is the g4 is really too slow for the video editing I want to do on it, so I want a new MBP.But I'm waiting for the next upgrade, who knows how long that will take...

Those who say brightness isn't important are betraying their non-age. I'm a middle-aged environmentalist, and probably shouldn't even be using computers. But if I do, I like nice and bright so I don't have to use glasses (I'm just starting to improve my vision with the Bates method, and glasses just mess it up). I have a plain old MacBook and my computer-literate wife says it's dull, even for normals. Between her and my son, they've ramped this puppy up with as much juice as you can get out of a mixed metaphor. My question--is there any way to buy extra juice, sort of like paying to get a 100-watt bulb instead of a 75.--dave
