msnbc.msn.com — "The Wii's strong showing at the 2006 expo earlier this month, combined with Sony's announcement of two PS3 models for the mind-blowingly high prices of $499 and $599, has prompted many of the same analysts who dismissed Nintendo to predict its continued resurgence," reports Newsweek.

I think your downplaying just how important stories like this are. Yeah, WE (Wii?) know this, but WE are geeks/nerds/gamers/etc. We are in the know. But even now the vast majority of people, including potential and definite consumers, are completely unaware of what's going on right now in the gaming industry, especially in regards to the PS3 and super-especially the Wii.Stories like these that hit popular sources like Newsweek are really more important for Nintendo than your standard online gaming article on say IGN. This goes double in the Wii's case because of it's attempt to capture the market outside your typical gamer. This kind of exposure is essential for Nintendo in their marketing of the Wii if they truly want to reach out and grab non-gamers, because right now the general populas has no freakin' clue what Nintendo's doing.I hope to see a lot more informed popular articles for the Wii that help to better spread the word. Although, what Nintendo's marketing REALLY needs is visual demonstrations (like TV stuff) and actual demo stations put in places where non-gamers will actually play them.

Video game fans are the most anti consumer people you can ever meet. The psp is profitable for Sony so how has it failed? While marketshare is nice for companies all a company can really hope for is to make profit, which Sony does with the psp. Too say Sony needs to give up on a profitable system one that provides choice to developers and consumers just shows a lack of knowledge about business in general.

I have to agree, for the most part. I had a lot of fun with my N64 and given the choice again I still would have purchased it over the PS1. As far as the GameCube goes I have had one since launch, and have always had fun with it. I decided to also buy a PS2, but that was mainly to get the games I couldn't get for the Cube, like GTA, Gran Turismo, Katamari, etc. As far as the Super Nintendo and NES go that is the pinnacle of gaming. I love my SNES like a fat kid loves cake.

Graphics will only take you so far, anybody who has following games for the past couple of years will tell you that.

Let me try to explain to you what Sony is doing with their high price tag. When a new electronic device come to market they always set the price higher. So they can make more cash on first adapters( who are willing to pay more on the new released product.) After, they sell its product with the higher price to most of the first adapters, they will start to cut its price and try to gain the market share. We really don't know how many of these first adapters are out there.
