msnbc.msn.com— The United States is still the dominant force in technology, innovation, productivity and profits. But Americans don't quite realize how fast the rest of the world is catching up.

@irwhiteboi -> So really who cares if china and India finally stop being bums and start catching up to the rest of the world, its better for us if they do so because we will have cheaper goods to purchase for ourselves. It's possible that this is a zero-sum game. In other words, China will be able to produce cheaper products, but we'll *need* cheaper products in order to afford them, as entire sectors are slowly replaced by foreign labor, and the overall standard of living starts to slide for a growing number of people.
I always thought it was interesting that Americans can read something like this article about themselves as a society and then comment as if they are not apart of it. Many comments here like "we became lazy f**ks" are getting positive diggs. That's just crazy, digg for the truth of it but not for THE TRUTH OF IT. Are we becoming a self-hating society? Like a goth kid that sits alone in his room reading his own poetry, cutting himself while cursing life and "the man" as if we somehow are the enlightened ones. It takes real change not self pity.
@Daedelus: Because I've found that ... I guess about 60% of the time, Digg is /not/ the place where intelligent discourse can be held. If you want to see proof about that, just read -- really read -- some of the comments that are 'dugg' in response to any article. I see too many well written, relevant posts get buried because the opinion isn't popular, and almost none getting dugg for the simple fact that they are clear, concise, well-written arguments. (I do admit that mine was not; I've no issue with that being buried, it deserved it)
