The actual site has some good uses, such as following local news websites that don't have an RSS feed, but unfortunately the site has been overrun by idiots with large egos.With that being said, don't hate the site for the stupidity of it's userbase.
This just goes to show what is wrong with social web services replacing actual URLs with shortcut URLs that are redirected to the target page - if it even is a page.Internet users should be made aware of where the URL points before they click on it and/or asked for confirmation before they are redirected to that destination before their browser retrieves it. Common sense, really.
