kberg.ch — Check it out! Q is a new Cocoa implementation of the open-source emulator QEMU. Its optimization for OSX includes being a universal binary, support for CoreImage, CoreAudio and OpenGL. Who needs to wait for Microsoft?

You need to install Windows for it to work

Windows and OS X in the same sentence can't be good.http://www.aljitech.com/ Digg's Playground

I dunno, for PPC OS X, you need an x86 emulator, but for x86 OS X, you need a virtualizer. With a universal binary, I would think that under x86 OS X it would be unnecessarily slow. Aren't there already some non-universal binary x86 OS X only X86 virtualizers available?

C'mon now. Everyone that is knocking this should consider a couple things:x86 emulation on x86 is indeed a good thing. I don't want to dual boot just to test my web-dev stuff on IE or use VS.net.x86 virtualization is on the way. This is the best way to go, everyone knows this.slower than native does not equal useless.this univeral binary on a Core Duo is WAY faster than running VPC or Q on a G4 or G5.yes, this is based on QEMU, but that's okay!I personally, love it, and thank the developers!

"Tried it on my 600MHz laptop, waaaaaaaay to slow to do anything, it took 48hrs to install Windows XP (But it did install!) Although it does seam very promising."Try installing it on a Mactel next time.

Had problems installing XP on a 2 GHz Intel Core Duo, but Win 2000 works pretty good. I was surprised at how speedy it actually was. The sound is pretty choppy, but this is good enough to test web apps in IE, though.

Well, I noticed someone else had posted a story about Q, but they give it a confusing title and thus no one dugg it. It seemed to me that this program was of value to more than 7 people and I wanted to help bring it to people's attention. Yes, it's not perfect, but it is useful for testing IE on Macs, which is a huge problem, having to leverage coworkers for the problem is a sorry solution.I know this isn't the only free option for emu, but it is the only Universal option as far as I know, and it seems to have a lot of potential generally. Darwine seems pretty awesome but not everyone wants to install a massive frameworks. VPC is expensive as hell. Also, the comment about waiting on Microsoft referred to waiting on MS to port VPC to Universal. Who knows how long that will take?
