forums.ilounge.com — When my right earbud started making an annoying crackling sound I thought it was just the earbuds fault. But recently on iLounge it appears that a bunch of other iPod users have also had the problem, and with third party headphones as well! So, if you're using an expensive pair of earbuds with your 5G -- watch out!

This is total bs. How can an iPod "destroy" your headphones? All thats going through the wire is electrical impulses to reproduce sound. No digg.

My family has 2 ipod minis, 1 nano, 2 psps - along w/ the 5 pairs of s**tty headphones you got there I also have one pair of Etymotics and one pair of Koss PortaPros. one pair of headphones of all these 7 has developed a crackle in the right from blaring music on s**t quality cans. THERE IS NO STORY HERE RETARDS!Oh yeah... what phones went out and how? The iPod stocks while playing PSP! Guess that blows your dips**t conspiracy theories out of the water.

Yeah man those stock ear buds are quality anyways. I wouldn't expect anything to go wrong with those little things..........

This makes me wonder if its a problem with the headphones or the Ipod. I have a 3G 15Gb model with some aftermarket Sony's (not earbuds) and I've never had a problem. Of course I don't download my music from just anywhere. I mostly use ITMS in the US. I was think about replacing the Sony's with some Etymotic ER-6i's when I get my new Ipod, but now I not so sure.

Man i thought i was the only one with a pair of messed up earbuds. Unfortunatley my right earbud also went out a couple days ago. It started making a cracklin noise like its grounding wrong. Ive only had my iPod for a month its a 5g Black 60G. This sucks though. It looks like the iPod destroys earbuds! I look forward to seeing if Apple will do anything about it.

I've had my iPod for less than a week and in my case its the left earbuds that have started crackling. Wonder how long before the right ones start crackling too! It works ok if I play it on a lower volume, but then I can hear everyone around me. Gosh darn it. This is ridiculous. Apple sucks big time.I was thinking of buying Bose or some other earphones, but it looks like its the iPod thats causing the earphones to fail? Has anyone used Bose earphones with iPod and what has been the experience like?

Hate to "me too" this, but left earbud on my Sony headphones has gone silent after a month of listening on a 5G video 60GB iPod. And, no, I don't listen at high volume. The EQ and the video out have always been off. What good is a music player that destroys your headphones? Thanks for ripping us off Apple.

My iPod 5G killed the right earbud of my Senheissers cx300.
