usatoday.com — New York today became the first city in the United States to prohibit trans fats in restaurants, a shift that will affect eateries from the corner deli to the brasserie and ultimately may influence how food is prepared at restaurants around the nation.

I want to vote to bring asbestos back as a building material. And paint it with lead paint. But the government won't let me!Who cares if unsuspecting people get sick? It's cheaper!

That was about time... ban that crap except in China where people needs to die everyday to not overpopulate

I think this is really a case of the government treating its citizens as children. People need to accept the responsibility of managing their diets. No one is forcing anyone to eat foods with trans-fats; people do it out of their own will. I really hope this doesn't become some sort of new trend; I think the nanny state has gone far enough already.

Bad analogies. Nobody slips alcohol and cigarettes into you food with out telling you. You cannot tell what oil the food your order has been cooked with. And foods like organ meat are known to be loaded with saturated fat and cholesterol. The thing is trans-fats offer no different flavor nor nutritional value and do nothing but damage your blood vessels. And they are killing great numbers of people. They are only used as a preservative which is only to make money. By your stupid arguments restaurants should be allowed to put plasticizers or whatever chemical they please into food as per our "personal choice".

well sure, its a good thing, kind of. i just dont think outright BANNING anything is the right idea...why can't they do something about trans fats like they did with MSG? its not illegal, but people know its bad for you and so restaurants are encouraged to call it out when they are MSG-free. im sure there is some incredibly delicious something out there that just cant exist without transfats somewhere in its ingredients... and saving that one delicious something is worth not banning something even if it is bad for you.besides which, as is pointed out in the article, whats next? caffeine? sugar? if i had to resort to decaf, artificially sweetened coffee, im pretty sure id have to just quit my job and kill myself.

So a woman can choose to have an abortion but that very same woman CANNOT choose to eat something unhealthy?

Those damn nannies at the NYC Dept. of Health trying to take away my freedoms by making the chef wash his hands. I have a right to go into a restaurant and eat food prepared...

I thought USA was a free country. Now I am scared. Some day there would be a law (backed by some evil pharmaceutical companies) that anything natural is banned and you would have to buy daily purified drugs to feed yourself and keep healthy! The fear of trans-fat is totally non-sense!
