computing.co.uk — Security researchers at Symantec have discovered a new proof of concept virus that targets AMD processors rather than operating systems. Running at the processor level, the virus can evade kernel protection. The last large scale outbreak of a chip level threat dates back to 1998's CIH/Chernobyl, which embedded itself into the flash-BIOS.

So where's the proof that Intel CPUs are invulnerable? The article states that AMD is easier to compromise than Intel, but that doesn't mean it can't happen Intel or any other processor."Weafer added that this is EASIER to do for AMD processors than for 32- and 64-bit Intel chips because the two AMD families are more similar than the Intel ones."

You could reset bios/cmos manually on the mainboard then flash the bios with a new one that protects against the virus
