You've had it for like 8 months man. Of course the price is going to go down. I own a ps3 and I couldn't be happier that they dropped the price.

I am one of the people who have bought the elite, but really, I dont think the HDMI makes the previous versions obsolete - besides not having a bunch of cables for audio/video as with component cables, the HDMI and component, visually, are nearly identical and not really discernible to the human eye. I can't do anything about having bought the elite at this point, but if I was to do it again, I might have just bought the version just below it. HDMI isnt that big of a deal

You think it'd be a wise 'business' move? You have a degree in "business" or something? or are you like 16 and think that the market exhists for consumers to get things for less than it costs to make? Mucho dinero from blu-ray titles? Well in your "business land" Blu-Ray movies must be in the 5 dollar bin, since the market exhists to make sure you don't spend your money... Maybe sony should bundle in a 1080p 42" LCD?

Honestly they have simply restored the previous price points that were available when the 20gig model was out, this is hardly a price cut. People will still look at bluray, games etc when deciding whether to buy as these are the most important factors, additional HDD space is essentially pointless but the motorstorm package will add more sales than the 499 60gig model (if there is an increase) because to the average consumer who wants to buy a PS3 it looks more attractive, you would kinda want a game for your new PS3. If anyone says, wow ill buy one now, why didn't they when the 20 gig model was out? The motorstorm package is the most important part of this or in other words the only NEW thing. Point is Sony are attempting to isolate two markets again like they did at the start under the guise of a price cut. Selling at two price points is the best thing you can do if you are trying to sell more, one model for those who don't blink at $100 more especially with game (and the 20gig extra i guess. These people would of paid $600 anyhow, or were on the verge of deciding they would), and one for those fooled into thinking the price of the PS3 has dropped. i.e keep the old market whilst attracting new, more gullible consumers. It's not like this is a bad thing, but calling it a price drop is incorrect because you could get a $499 PS3 before!

The 80GB exhists for people who will pay 100 more for virtually no hardware changes so sony can make up for money lost from money they put into hardware. Example:intelligent buyer: hm, 500 dollars for exhisting model. thanks sony! (you save)Timmy's Mom: hm, 600 dollars for a new PS3? It comes with a game too? Timmy will love this! (sony saves)win-win IMO. still would be nice if they included cables..
