We really need renewables to become cost effective, or we're never going to make it. Let's hope this is one of the steps we need to making that a reality. It may take more government subsidies though to truly get there.
As someone pointed out, Solar panels have a very large "Out of the gate" cost, meaning its expensive for the initial set up and instliation. But they recoup there cost over 10 fold in the long run.
