I don't want to sound pretentious myself, but i'd like to think they've done it for a reason. I'm sure they've got some cash still lying around from the Bends and could probably afford a designer to stick in some shiny Web 2.0 buttons, but is that necessary? is it right to spend money on that? isn't the music enough? is one man's s**t website another man's utopic design? is it a revolt against the music industry being so image driven?, etc.. I think they probably just wanted people to think about that stuff and then even think about whether that was the intetntion or not. Just get people thinking I guess. I Might Be Wrong though...
I've been trying to order the download, but their server seems to be extremely slow. This is probably the first time I'm actually happy someone's server's nearly dead, because I know people are donating their money.
I was going to spend about $5.00 on the album since i've never been a big radiohead fan, but I love this concept. Since their servers have been locked up all morning, I turned to the piratebay. In all actuality, i found that it was a fantabulous album, and i went back to the site and spent $11.11 (weird money conversions, it just came out that way).
What a shameless publicity stunt. How much respect can a group have for it's fans when they are offered a choice between an $81 album including vinyl (which most will find useless) and an inherently low quality mp3 download. Many are being fleeced $81 for a decent quality alternative to a crappy MP3 download - we should all expect sound quality of a conventional sort and not have to pay through the nose for it. The download should be available in a lossless format or the CD should cost $20 at most. I will purchase this only when it comes out on CD...and at a reasonable price.
