@jacksons98"Actually an $800 isn't even playing games all that well."I guess you don't have much experience building PCs then. It's pretty easy to throw together an $800 box that runs rings around a PS3 or 360.
This is genius. They fob you off with a rubbish console, and then throw in 2 serial number ranges full of defects.Safe to say it. You've messed up big time Sony.
"New PS3 systems may include a bonus high-pitched whine"They all do - the sound comes from nearby disgruntled GC 1.5 owners that are grown tired of their Wii minigames.
I had the same exact issue with the 60 gb unit I bought last week. It's a VERY high pitch noise that -IS- coming from the fan. it sounds nothing like a fan spinning, more like an ear splitting high pitched frequency- which is pretty much what it is lol.I was pretty upset because I at first was thinking this was what all the PS3s did and people just dealt with it.. but I couldn't accept that after only playing for 10 minutes and had the worst headache of my life. this is a sound that is actually impossible to mask by a good system. different sounds travel on different frequencies, this is not something you can drown out- I tried.so anyway, I took the machine back to best buy and exchanged it for another and no more noise! !!! my machine was not one listed in the serial number range mentioned so I wouldn't go off that. if you have this issue go take it back asap. the machine makes very little noise, so if you have this issue it is a bad fan !!!

Are you sure that the PS3 comes with Folding@Home and not SETI@Home? Perhaps it's a message from an alien race. :)Here's the sound: http://www.mediafire.com/?cqmo5emnzmn
