There are, as we type, plenty of alternative browsers in the App Store. It's just that they use Webkit.

@ bjornski, I'm interested, can you please tell me, as I can't find any existing iPhone feature that does what Opera Mini does.Which existing iPhone "feature" sends your browser session (with state, cookies, passwords) over to a server operated by Opera via a thin client (Opera Mini) ?

Hey @khyberkitsune are you still trolling or do you really not understand how image compression works?JPEGs are lossy compressed and have adjustable quality/compression ratio.. You can therefore re-compress a JPEG at a lower quality. Try it, open a JPEG in photoshop, hit "Save as", then in the JPEG options select the lowest quality.Notice how much smaller the new file is? (and how much worse the picture looks) Opera mini does this, and goes one step further and reduces the image dimensions too, further reducing the file size.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lossy_compressionhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JPEGGIFs are losslessly compressed, but you can still reduce their filesize by resizing, reducing the number of colours, converting to low quality jpeg etc.

"This is completely wrong. Pure FUD."Really? FUD huh?.http://www.opera.com/mini/help/faq/#encryption"Note that the encryption is only available in the advanced version of Opera Mini, and not in the basic version. In the basic version, and in older versions of Opera Mini, the connection between the Opera Mini client and the Opera Mini transcoder server will always be unencrypted."
