openmedia.co.nz — Named myPVR this is an unbelievable Linux based, dual tuner, network capable, home theater grade media center PC. Based on MythTV these boxes are tweaked beyond belief. DVB-T and HDTV capable (for those lucky enough to get a feed). Check out the tech specs for more details. I want one!

$1500 is way too much. You can build your MythTV box for under $300. To make it a true mass market consumer product it has to be under $200.

I love the idea of MYTHTV. I've set up boxes before, but was never able to get the bugs worked out. The sound was always slightly 'off' from the video -- even after reducing the buffer and telling it to use real time audio. I was never able to get 5.1 optical working either...So close, yet so far Mr. Bond...

Yes you can build a mythbox for US$300, but can you build one with the same set of features? The local price for the Dual Tuner Haupaauge PVR 500 card is over US$300 here in NZ (with discounts). Our margin on these boxes is actually quite small until the volume rises, and then we will try and drop the price. We even have some major Linux hackers buying them as they don't want to spend the time tweaking a box to get it running. Now that they have something that works it is up to them if they want to use our support network, or patch the box themselves.
