dailytech.com — "LCD panels have traditionally been lagging behind CRT monitors in terms of color response, saturation, accuracy and overall black-level response.- However, a company named eCinema Systems has announced a new LCD technology that it claims surpasses CRT in virtually every respect."

50 pounds for a 21 inch CRT? Mine is 65 pounds, and it is supposed to be a short model. I occasionally worry it will make the desk collapse.

I like LCD's because they don't give me headaches. I do have the refresh rate set to 150 hz, but the brightness is just too much.

@devindotcom: Streetstealth is right on. Its 256 levels of gray for each Red, Green, and Blue color channel. So 256 reds x 256 greens x 256 blues = 16.7 million possible colors displayed on the LCD - not 256 total colors. Not really a limiting factor to display quality.

Well, phosphor burn is a problem if you want to use it for TV. Suppose you get a widescreen TV, but watch some channels that are 4:3. Unless you want to watch in one of those funky zoom/stretch modes (which I don't), you will get uneven phosphor burn over the 4:3 portion of the screen. Watching a lot of 2.35:1 movies will also give you an uneven burn.Unless there is a solution to this problem, LCDs will still have at least one advantage.

I don't see how you would have "burn in" with sed if crt does not have this problem. Based on the technical explanations that I have seen, they do exactly the same thing as crts except they have many small electron emitters rather than one large emitter w/deflecting yoke to allow the one emitter to function w/the entire screen. If someone has an explanation of this, please post. Also as far as the dimming effect, the technical release states that there is only a 10% drop after 60,000 hrs. That is nearly 7 years.

its not an illusion, its sed as mentioned above in previous comments.
