blog.wired.com — Radiohead's "pay what you want" distribution gamble paid off despite -- or perhaps because of -- rampant file sharing, according to new analysis. When it comes to judging whether an album is a success these days, the old metrics just don't cut it.

Hopefully this will mean more bands will choose alternative forms of distribution.Hear that RIAA? That's the sound of little support you still have leaving through the door

This article sums it up pretty well, I think. Piracy gets people listening, which gets them eventually buying something, be it traditional albums sales or live tickets or merchandise and in the end it gets awareness and publicity. Props to Radiohead for really showing everyone a potential future model and exposing these new ways of thinking to the traditional media and industries.
