thepcspy.com — Say goodbye to annoying "are you a human being?" human-checkers that make you decipher cryptic fonts on cryptic backgrounds. And say hello to kittens! Its a win-win situation. Out with the annoying and in with the cute!

Or you could do what all the cool people do and go to puppywar.com instead. Puppies are way cooler than kittens.

if you're popular enough, someone will sit down and figure it out especially if it can be done quickly. This one seems breakable (as it is right now) in a short time.

I like it:1. It is easier than character CAPTCHA.2. It should be easier for people with vision impairments and color blindness (assuming better images)3. It is good enough for 95% of the blogs and forums which need a little help keeping out the SPAM.Some of the original issues are corrected in this version: <a class="user" href="http://www.rodsdot.com/ee/dynamicImage.asp">http://www.rodsdot.com/ee/dynamicImage.asp</a>That version also disproves the assertion of the original article that you can not stream images using classic ASP.Sure, you want to use a large number of images.Humans can easily recognize complex patterns, such as pictures of cats or unicorns. Programs (bots - OCR) can not. When CAPTCHA based on characters was implemented it used patterns that are relatively easy for programs to recognize. To get past that problem the characters are distorted making it more difficult for the humans the test was designed to accommodate. It also made it very difficult for color blind people and persons with visual difficulties to use.It is an example. Obviously it can be improved upon, but that does not make it any less useful.Beats the heck out of the CAPTCHA I will have to pass to post this comment. (Which I have failed multiple times!!!)There are many ways to make it more complex for bots but still keeping it simple for humans. It is also easy to gather a large pool of good images.Any CAPTCHA is bad, and can be attacked by a determined person. It only matters that the CAPTCHA be good enough, not annoy people too much, and is used as one part of a multi-faceted approach to reducing SPAM or bot registrations. This can do the trick with a little tweaking.I'll be replacing my character CAPTCHA's with a form of image CAPTCHA. I have many other methods in place to help. I do not have to have a very complex, distorted image CAPTCHA which annoys my visitors.I'll even use at least one Unicorn.

RE: Blind. In the US the census bureau reports a rather low percentage of blind users (1.3% in 2000) and that includes "Legally" blind people. I have some Legally blind friends and relatives. They can zoom an image and recognize the outline of a kitten from a non-kitten if the images are well chosen. (Other images could be used.)This is potentially better than dynamically generated obscured character CAPTCHA for the visually impaired. Hell, I have 20.20 vision and fail Diggs posting CAPTCHA 2-3 times for most posts.CAPTCHA should not be used alone.A computer should not be expected to replace a human editor.Current CAPTCHA schemes are far worse even if they have more permutations. For gosh sake, let the humans post easily.

If you are popular enough for a SPAMMER to break your kitty CAPTCHA, your character CAPTCHA will be broken as well. CAPTCHA is just one part of a whole system and should not be so darn hard to use like most sites have made theirs...including here.
