arstechnica.com — A new Google gadget allows for quicker access to one's documents living in the Google Docs cloud. It's a good step towards making the service more transparent and accessible, but Google still faces a tough battle for office suite market share.

I use it for taking notes in class and making study guides all the timeGoogle desktop in NOT required; Google Gears is, no idea what he is talking about... and I don't find it slow. Sure it''s share of use is still quite smaller than Open Office or Microsoft Office but look at the lead time each of those programs have, not to mention default install base or that businesses predominantly use MS Office and IT change is feared at the administrative level.Give it time. It certainly is great for instant portability w/ no backups required.

I'd say Google Docs has easily caught up to It's competitor.... Microsoft Office 3.0.

You obviously don't use it on a daily basis...

I like google docs for collaborating, but find myself typing in good old Word and copy/pasting in, then sharing with collaborators.
