I did my earlier tests on a windows machine to match it against chrome. But just enabling the jit with the above instructions seems to have made a huge increase in speed. Opera was just trouncing firefox before that, and now firefox comes in ahead at 1.7x on sunspider.
feasible because most Firefox users have many extensions in use. Chrome has none. take a brand new copy of Firefox (without extensions) and then benchmark it against Chrome. See the results. Chrome is new, a beta, I never expected it to be the absolute best out there. Firefox is still the best out there when it comes to the stable releases available.
