getdemocracy.com — The newest version of Democracy Player (released today) is much faster and uses WAY less RAM. You gotta get it! If you don't know, it's a video player / RSS app that's free / open-source for Windows, Linux, and OS X.

Democracy is meant to basically take RSS feeds of podcasts/vidcasts and automatically download them for viewing. It actually runs off of VLC's audio/video decoding, so it's really not all that much different in that respect. The main use for Democracy is WebTV, etc.

democracy is NOT based on VLC or competing agains it, depending on which OS it's running it has different engines. on windows it uses VLC but on linux it uses xine and since 0.9.1 it has support for gstreamer.

you want to type dpkg -i ./, not apt-get install. apt-get is only for packages on the package server, not packages that you have already downloaded locally.

I don't have a use of this but it looks like a cool product though the interface seems to be more suited to Mac OSX (unless that was just teh Mac OSX version in the screens). Good to see that there's at least a source tarball and a debian package :)

as i said before, it's segmented comment - democracy offers weekly or monthly episodic content of shows that people create. It's not live tv, it's episodic or segmented videos that get downloaded in the background while you surf the net. Then when its downloaded fully you can watch it. It's all automated and makes watching stuff like diggnation easy.if you want full fledged tv buy cable or use http://www.freetube-tv-online.uni.cc

"democracy player is great, but it needs better content. It's mostly just tech vlogs and podcasts. How about some dramas or indie tv shows?Still that's something users have to think about. "Check my site for a mini walkthrough on how to add more channels/"better" channels to Democracy.
