charlotte.com— A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer shot and killed a cell phone tower worker early Thursday morning while the man was making a routine upgrade to the network.

@tritiumWRONG. The flowery story is just human interest backstory. The only "facts" which are presented in the article is the cop's story, which sounds extremely suspicious. Why would an engineer - even a gun-toting one - draw his gun on a cop? It doesn't make any sense and I for one am not convinced in the cop's story. I'm not saying it's a lie, but you need to be critical of these types of stories, especially when there is so much at stake. Police violence against innocent civilians is as serious as it gets and people - on both sides - shouldn't be jumping to conclusions.
@xunil2"Suicide by police" WTF? So his grand plan to was to go to work at a cell tower behind a strip mall where a police officer was sure to drop by, threaten him and hope he shoots you? Is that you Oliver Stone?
There is a dirty little secret that some cops have in their trunks in the case of a bad shooting... A gun with a serial number "rubbed off"... Plant the gun - the bad shooting becomes justified. Especially when there is no witnesses.
Chicken s**t.I say the cop is lying. The cop probably knew the man he shot, and was probably shot over some jelousy or gambling - VERY common Charlotte crap. You are right btw, one minute TOTAL to edit is clearly not enough time - especially if you are on a 28 modem. What would be FAIR is: The one minute timer should STOP when you click the edit button, and then should RESTART when you click the UPDATE button - why? Because you may want to EDIT your EDITED comment again. Also, your comment should not appear on digg UNTIL the one minute (after final edit) timer has expired (this last bit may already be the case - I have not tested this).
You don't know that the tech brought the gun that was found on him to the site. It could just as easily be a cop-supplied 'throw-down' to enhance the plausability of his cover story.
It's because all the people on the cop gravy train are offended at the idea that normal people think cops are overpriced disability-cheating lazy f**ks... and that's the ones that don't beat and shoot people.
No, buddy. You're WRONG.The only flowery part of this story is the portion about the the cable tech. You're right. This story IS one sided. You point to the portion of that story that discusses the police offer's private life, and I'll send you a $100 bill. The story is so tilted against the officer, its obscene. Then again, you all are so caught up in your anti-police conspiracy theories to even realize that.So go ahead and blame the cop. Go ahead and convince yourself that the gun was planted. I mean, it becomes true if you tell it to yourself enough times, right?

Umm...Duh. Do you know how much heat that equiptment produces? A lot. I still feel the Police officer did not act appropriatly. That being said here is a link to some video of local media coverage http://www.wsoctv.com/news/9548998/detail.html
