Unless the iPhone release of ScumVM comes with a coupon for a bluetooth keyboard that works with the iPhone it's got a lot of work to do to live up to this title,

You're half right -- ScummVM can't play SCI games, but they have many AGI games covered ;-). The FreeSCI project is leading that scene, though unfortunately they're not exactly the most active bunch :-/
