telegraph.co.uk — A nasal spray containing an antibiotic used to treat tuberculosis may help people to overcome their fears of public speaking, attending work parties or even performing karaoke. Psychologists found that sprays emitting D-Cycloserine (DCS) significantly reduced the symptoms of people afflicted with chronic social phobias.

Exactly two users here (scottknick, Nudar) have pointed out that this article describes a procedure that is utterly unscientific. The placebo effect is very real, and very powerful, and this study did absolutely nothing to control for it.They could have had two groups, treated the same except one group got the real nasal spray they are testing, and the other got a placebo spray, with nobody involved knowing which group was which. But they didn't do that. In other words, this result is nothing more than a few anecdotes.Sorry, but the plural of anecdote is not scientific evidence.By the way, isn't it obvious to nearly everyone that if you take somebody nervous about public speaking, tell them you're administering a drug that will make them more confident public speakers, that they will in fact (on average) feel more confident in their public speaking?I sure hope people are smarter than falling for this nonsense.-acticshttp://www.nocirc.org

i also read that people who use nasal spray and eat three meals a day are much less likely to starve to death than people who do neither.

Is your pathological Bush (self) hatred so great that you have to find a way to connect even the most unrelated of topics? Are you that unhappy? Such an angry little elitist, liberal, snob you must be. Turn on Dr Phil and have yourself a good cry.The fifth column is collapsing. Shot itself in the mouth with two rounds of Harry Reids feet.Let the liberal crackup continue!
