thanks for the shout - interesting. She seems to say that capitalism and totalitarianism [China is Communist/Stalinist in name only] are two different philosophies - but they are two sides of the same coin. Klein does make the very good point that China's massive economic growth costs at the cost of personal liberty and a decent standard of living for the vast majority of people.thanks again Dave
Naomi Klein is the greatest. She offers such clarity on issues that have been "spun to death". I wish she had her own Sunday morning news program, never gona happen tho'.
This is like the beginning of the Industrial Revolution which began in England. The British perfected turning their own lower classes into industrial slaves before exporting this new form of capitalism around the globe. China has just taken it to the next logical level, or maybe they have just taken capitalism back to its origins. It also reminds me of the history of colonialism. Eventually all the European countries became colonial empires and the US grabbed colonies from Spain in the 1898 War. Again it is the viral nature of these exploitative systems that is similar.
Read Naomi's book "The Shock Doctrine" where she is primarily critical of the US. In this brief interview she is just providing yet another real world example of Disaster Capitalism.
