enthusiast.hardocp.com — The new GeForce 8800 GT gives the GeForce 8800 GTS and 2900 XT a run for the money. We put them to the test, along with the 8800 GTX and Ultra, using the Crysis and UT3 Demos. Did we mention MSRP is $200 to $249?

While it is faster than the 8800GTS, it does not warrant a upgrade. Unless you are running some low end hardware and want something faster...

If you don't mind having a bloated OS that is DRM-laden and phones home to Microsoft on a daily basis, then yes, Vista's great!

I still think that UT2004 has better graphics than UT3. I can get a good 30+ FPS at 1600x1200 on my 3.2 Ghz P4 with a Radeon X1600 512 MB. With all the settings maxed out, no less...

I agree.

It's quite insulting that they haven't yet issued a price cut on the other models. It just seems wrong to have such a cluttered mid-range. Without seeing the reviews, people would instinctively assume the GT is a slower card than the GTS, because that's how NVidia has always done it...I think they should have called it the 8900 GT instead.

Yeah the card is great with the new ones, but there aren't any guarentees it will play with the old ones. Just type "ut2004 8800" into google and you will see what I mean. The stuttering has been there since the 8 series was released back in 2006, and Nvidia still haven't fixed it. Its not just Ut2004, its all games built on the unreal 2 and 2.5 engine, and it only happens for xp users.

I agree too, UT2004 is better, but 8800 doesn't play it well. For most people it stutters like mad, it has since the 8 series began. Type 8800 UT2004 into google or just look here <a class="user" href="http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=23904">http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=23904</a>

Yeah its great, I've got one, just dont get it if you want to play ut2004, for most players it stutters to the point that the game becomes unplayable. <a class="user" href="http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=23904">http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=23904</a>

OK, I retested here just to tell everyone one thing, This card is the BEST video card for PCI - Express 1.0 you can get, If you are looking for a video card. and you dont have PCI - E 2.0. STOP LOOKING! get EVGA 8800GT 512 . This is THE BEST investment i made after my 24" LG monitor. This card runs 95% of new games at 60 FPS like water with in DirectX 10. Ok sure Ultra high crysis, with 1900x1200 rez is not a good example, but HL2, CS:S full settings (maximum AA, AP, shadows and 1900x1200) Flyes. New Prince of Persia, same Highest settings, Only FPS drops I had is in 4 poorly made cut scenes. Big deal!!. Dead Space - Setting MAXED out over 60 constant FPS. - no frame drops NOTHING. Clean as I don't know what. NFS Undercover - MAXED OUT - Almost clean (frame drops here and there , rarely) UT3 - lolz... like hot knife and butter- maxed out. Left4dead - maxed out - easy. WoW, warhammer, FF titles - forget what lag is. I got my video card from MicroCenter for $89 about a month ago, and I have been NEVER so satisfied with $100 I spent. just make sure you got at least 450 + Watt Power supply so your system will not give up the performance. Bottom line: want a card that will last you for 2 years? Buy this one. Want a card to SLI ? wait a year or two and get 2x 280s GTX and you will be happy camper! do not sly this card, it is not worth it in a long run. by itself card is just gold. I run Vista x64,crossfire , 4 Gig RAM , and AMD Athlon 64 x2 5000+ (2.6). I did not overclock nothing, no need. Hopefully this review helped. Thank you for reading :) If you have any more questions I do not mind helping out. my mail uraletz@gmail.com, feel free to ask me about my computer and this card. :)Stas K.
