The free market will put NVIDIA in it's place. If NVIDIA pisses enough people off we will start seeing a lot more of ATI.

Why are you so pissed off? You do like the fact that companies like Newegg can make enough money to stay in business and provide you a service, don't you?

phil's right. Nvidia became a top player in a free market, and is now using its legitimate power to its advantage. It only seems natural that a few members of any free population will flourish.

If by cleaning up you mean letting them release really s**tty cards since AMD bought ATI you are spot on.

Good luck with lackluster performance.

it's not like you can buy a BFG iPod vs. a XFX iPod... but it's equally annoying. With this Apple policy, it's more anti-consumer than the nVidia crap. So the only reason I'd buy an iPod at BestBuy vs. Circuit City is location / availability. The product is the same, the price is the same... this keeps the prices higher, so both retail outlets are happy. With the video cards, what if XFX can get their parts for cheaper & wants to sell the card for $10 less than BFG? Or maybe just try to make it up in volume ;)

OK, our walets are now more powerful voting tools considering the performance of ATI's new 4800 series cards. NVIDIA just lost the bang/buck argument, so maybe they'll drop UMAP as their sales drop... and maybe they'll realize nobody wants to pay $600 for a videocard that'll be outdated within a year.
