Outside of the cops & firefighters (which I hasten to point out are funded and administered at a *municipal* level), all the other services are things you can decide to "opt-out" of. The federal health "insurance" has no such option, you WILL PAY for the service, whether you want it or not, whether you use it or not, whether you need it or not.

Health care prices go up because consumers don't need to pay for medical products/services themselves. Either the government, or an insurance company, covers the bill. This means consumers are no longer price conscious, and the market doesn't work.

@avitakerI'm not saying the government can't do a fine job. The problem is that they spend way too much money doing it, and often they didn't even need to do what they did. They are not at all "efficient," I can't believe you even said that. For example, the government performs the census effectively, but they spend $48 on each citizen they count. That is disgustingly inefficient.

Burying comments is much easier than burying history isn't it?

Actually, you just demonstrated the exact attitude that my link refers to. You have no idea what my position is.To clarify my position:I believe people should pay in taxes an amount proportional to how much the government services they use cost.If someone uses the roads 3X more than the average citizen, then their taxes for roads should be 3X more than average.Taxing one person to provide welfare or free health care for another person is COMPLETELY unjustifiable.Similarly, taxing one person to provide hundreds of billions of dollars in corporate welfare to banks is COMPLETELY unjustifiable. The ignorant left doesn't understand either point.

Believe me, I understand Libertarianism. That's why I called it derkader. It makes just as much sense as anarchy and communism.

Things are supposed to be established at a local or state level first. It was an integral part of our governments checks and balances. The danger of starting to pass laws at the federal level is that when the swing of government goes back to the other side, they can just pass something at the federal level that affects all Americans. instead of just a local county that people can easily fight and if unsuccessful because those in the area want it, then one could easily move to another county instead of another country. Have your stinking healthcare but pass it at a county or state level. So I can move to another state, and still be apart of a free country. Just wait until the republicans pass a law that say you HAVE buy a gun or else pay a fine. You see how it isn't the law but the principle and how it can be corrupted.

It's just so amazing to be able to not having to worry that if you break your leg you're not going to go bankrupt or that when you get a cold you're not worrying it's something more and you might have to go to the doctors. The only thing I worry about when I'm ill is getting better, I nearly never have to go to the doctors or the hospital, but I'm so glad it's there if I do need it!Another great thing is the Family Planning services, being female, it's great to be able to go there and get whatever I need to protect myself, pills, condoms, tests, advice, whatever without having to worry about the bill!Immigrants aren't the problem, it's the governments they live under that don't give them what we have and we should work with them to help them get what we have here in the UK. I'm happy to help people in need with my taxes, there's always far less immigrants coming in than the media will have you believe, and people leave the UK all the time to live in other countries and we hardly hear about that because that doesn't sell papers...Echoing what rikwakefield said, if the government tries to dismantle or privatise the NHS I'll be fighting too!

Honestly it is good people pay to a health insurance fund, if President Obama has thought up something like that, I once read a horrible Wall Street Journal account of a very sick man being killed by a hospital because his insurance had given out and was literally put out on a bench to die that was in 1990 or 1991 - only he should not force people with fines if it involves those revolting medical examinations for all the prophylactic stories that should be a matter of choice, it is already too much what goes on in the army even though I am intending to see if I can join one the Israeli one (I am not a US citizen) as according to my father?s documents I am of partly Jewish origin. Frankly it is good if the government secures certain essentials like accident health care and education, but what is not good is when it is going to impose on individuals their choices when matters of mores, custom and principle are involved, we also do not all have blond hair, or a talent for languages. Nor need the Food and Drug Administration be so correct it just follows a certain line.

@doctechnical:So, your position is that if taxes are paid at the "municipal" level it's NOT socialism but if paid at the "federal" level it IS socialism?!I take it you're not "technically" a "doc" of logic are you?
