zombietime.com — By every measure, The United States and coalition forces have conclusively defeated all enemies in Iraq, pacified the country, deposed the previous regime, successfully helped to establish a new functioning democratic government, and suppressed any lingering insurgencies. The war has come to an end. And we won.

It is over and we have won. I think this is important for Americans (and the entire world) to know that hostilities as we know it are over. This has taken place despite the president-elect's horrible assertion that the surge hasn't worked and the press' inability to hold him accountable even despite such an egregious statement. Despite the lies -- truth has prevailed!VI-Day -- Spread the word!

I agree that our military efforts; and finally our diplomatic efforts; have culminated in a victory of historic proportions, by any reasonable standard of warfare and counterinsurgency throughout human history. But I also think that for the time being, it would be wise to hold the celebrations to a humble acknowledgment, and well-placed "I told ya so" remarks to the opposition. Not because there is nothing to be proud of, or nothing to be jubilant over; our victory in Iraq appears assured, and the situation, stabilized. But because at any given time, extreme violence with large numbers of casualties could erupt, causing people to doubt the victory we feel certain in, and give them fuel with which to attack the victory and call it failure.I don't want to make the "Mission Accomplished" mistake all over again. I want history to judge the Iraq war to have been the success that it is. Prematurely "calling the game" serves no purpose but to satisfy a need to be proven right in the short term, while risking having that prematurity turned against America by the Left in the event of a temporary downturn of the situation on the ground.
