It it not worlds first mobile phone with CLI. You can telnet to Motorola Linux based phones. Although it is not necessary to do unless you are hacking.

That said, there will be some apps that depend on a stylus when precision input matters. A sketching program, for instance, can't really work with finger input. Same with handwriting recognition, although I could imagine an HR program where you used the whole screen to input letters with your finger. But these are specialized examples - in general I agree that most apps should try not to depend on the stylus. Maybe we'll see some 'automated' conversion tools to help lazy programmers convert their mouse based interface to a finger based one.

I am an unapologetic Apple fan. I think the iphone is the best cell phone ever. Nobody has ever made a convincing argument otherwise.Until now.The full power of the open source community will be behind this phone. Imagine all the cool ass stuff it can do with its built in wifi/gps/unlockedness.Plus, I love how you can easily crack it open to upgrade. they even give you the special screwdriver!I just can't even imagine the cool s**t people will develop for this. Individual geeks and big co.'s like Google and Yahoo will be all over this.As Ubuuntu is bringing open source to the desktop this will bring it to the cell phone industry.

forgive him. he has been conditioned by the status quo. FOSS and its capabilities are unfathomable and they cannot be fathomed and it is without the capability of being fathomed.

To be the best phone ever the iPhone would need to be the best in terms of design, hardware and software. The iPhone fails in all three categories. First the design, it looks nice but the keyboard on screen doesn't work with thumbs very well, one handed messaging will be hard. The battery is not user accessible.Hardware is quite old, it's not cutting edge mostly. The OS is nice, the design is largely ground breaking, however it is lacking essential features for some people.
