NASA needs to do something as this generation will be footing the bills for years to come. Youtube, podcasts, brand placement in movies, celebrities, and accessible crews are all in the works

Creating an outpost on the moon is not simply a PR project. It would be the first step in learning to build colonies on planets other than our own, and a step towards true space exploration. These are worthwhile goals, even though they might seem very far off. If we, as a species don't continue to look forward and outward, then we'll start to destroy ourselves from within.

@afreyt: This is where I remember that I'm actually opposed to manned missions at the present time because of prohibitive cost & questionable value, have advocated abandoning the ISS, greatly prefer robotic probes, and stop arguing.

NASA: Why don't you just admit you can't do it.. you never have and will probably go bankrupt before you ever can (That or the considerably technically superior russians will beat you to it).

No, that's not what I'm saying; I'm saying that they take too long to do what they do.If we did it in the 1960's in like 5 years, why does it take us 15 years to do it now?
