science.nasa.gov — After two-plus years of few sunspots, even fewer solar flares, and a generally eerie calm, the sun is finally showing signs of life. "I think solar minimum is behind us," says sunspot forecaster David Hathaway of the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center. His statement is prompted by an October flurry of sunspots.

...except for the past several decades, when Earth's temperature steadily rose while there was a drop in solar output. How do you denialists account for that? Magic?http://www.skepticalscience.com/solar-activity-sun ...

I think I buried about half the comments above..... r people really that retarded? solar cycle has nothing to do with climate on Earth. only effect we can feel from it every now and again is the frying of one of our home appliances or a few satellites in space. take away our magnetic field ( a la the core) and things would really start burning.

Well reading that was an intergalactic waste of time...From what the title said I was expecting something more, like "Sun people"... or something.

Damn you miss-leading titles! Anyway, I attribute this to Obama winning. I heard he can cure cancer with one touch! If McCain had won then my god there would be no sun spots for the next 4 years! And then the sun would have imploded or something!!

Not solar flares, sunspots. However, if you were listening on FM it is more likely due to thermal ducting, not solar activity. The AM band, on the other hand, can be influenced by solar activity.

One group who is happy to see this are the ham radio operators. Increased solar activity will lead to better conditions for short wave communication. Hopefully I'll get some use out of my portable gear, as conditions have been terrible over the past few years.
