chron.com — Using the Freedom of Information Act, the Houston Chronicle analyzed 451,000 charges (totaling more than $265 million) made on NASA credit cards between Jan. 04 & July 07. NASA employees have used government credit cards to ring up iPods, video games & clothes, despite that the cards are supposed to be used to buy items essential to NASA's mission.

You're stupid. Buying from Neiman Marcus... jeez. Anyways, I'm pretty sure the phrase "fraudulent charges" means that they bought items with the credit card, using funds from NASA, and did not pay them back.

I love how the article sensationalises the fact that the card system possibly was defrauded for under $200,000 while breezing past the fact it saved NASA $8,000,000 right off the bat. And to be honest its probably more worth while to ignore small infractions(not the woman with the $156,000 of fraud) but smaller items that might not be by the book but probably ok to save on costs and morale as they do have that $8M bit of wiggle room.

Perhaps they are buying Halo, Doom or Half-Life 2 to exercise fighting extraterrestrials?

No, it's a real credit card - a Visa or Mastercard. It's issued by the employer, NASA, so that employees can make small purchases related to their jobs without filling out a purchase order. The bill goes directly to NASA.

Carbon taxes aren't a big deal when you have your NASA credit card to buy gas with.
