I have a regular macbook, Apple's Superdrive firmware 2.1 broke my Superdrive to all hell, as it has done to others online. Apple basically just told me to suck it, its not their problem when i just asked for a way to flash back to firmware 2.0 since even they had pulled the 2.1 from the software update cycle.

I'm not 100% sure with Acers but the Dells and Hp computers I've worked with allowed me to update motherboard drivers straight from Intel. I also remember updating the firmware on most of their DVD/Cd-ROM drives because they come straight from LG or Lite on. Do that with a mac.
