salon.com — I am the father of a 13-year-old daughter whose mother has been taking her to an evangelical Christian church her whole life. Her mother's family is entirely Christian. I am not a Christian, and in fact think that organized religion is actively harmful to her development into a rational adult. None of my friends are Christian, nor any of my family.

Actually unfortunately for her it appears there is no turning back. She will never "question the answers" because the bible tells you not to question but only to ask God for guidance and obey his word. Everything in the bible is to be taken as FACT and to question that is to question God.That should be very apparent by the fact that Adam and Eve were told to not eat the fruit from the tree as before they did they were naive to what good and bad was, only what God told them was right, all else was wrong.

The truth is, *the author* doesn't think. The girl is *13 YEARS OLD*, FFS! He should be happy the girl gives a damn one way or the other, at that age! 13 year-old girls are insane (I was a 13 yo girl once myself)--evangelical Christian or not.I can't believe how worked up everyone's getting about this, as though the fears of a 13 year-old ("she has started to become fearful that because I am not a Christian, I am going to hell") somehow are representative of God, Jesus Christ, Christianity, or even all Evangelicals. I know evangelicals, even (zomg!) Pentecostals, and guess what? You wouldn't even know the difference in normal conversation with them, unless you asked. (Well, you might notice they're usually *nicer* to fellow human beings than others, if you paid attention.)I STG some of these people spend too much time reading s**t on the internets about how eeeevil those Christians are, and not enough time actually dealing with other people in real life.

Being around hundreds of people thinking the same way is a "FORCE" that can alter your reality.

Um, the web site tells us silly things like "God exists in timeless eternity," "God exists in multiple dimension of time," and "Can we stretch the biblical creation narrative to place Eden in Africa or is it possible that the science is wrong?"That last one pretty much sums up all that is wrong about Christianity. Every time you run into a brick wall, it's "oh, well the Bible isn't meant to be taken literally," "the Bible is always true and science is just wrong," and so on. But bring up gay marriage or abortion and it's "God is sooooo clear on this issue, there's no question at all." What happened to not taking it literally? In short, Christians pick and choose whatever ideas from the religion and text that they like. There's no rhyme or reason to it. Funny, isn't it, how God's voice sounds so much like your own?
