arstechnica.com — That's a thorny issue that MySpace has found itself in the middle of, and they're not backing down. The latest: the Powers That Be? behind MySpace made another move to block content hosted by competitors from being embedded on user profile pages within the site--this time, the popular photo and video hosting site Photobucket.

Myspace probably saves a s**tload on bandwidth thanks to photobucket. It's not like photobucket is taking away from myspace advertising...the pictures go on the Myspace page, so the user views Myspace ads... makes no sense to me why they would block them.

I can't believe people still leave this as a comment in every MySpace story. I don't like MySpace much either, but your comment adds nothing to the discussion and frankly nobody gives a s**t about whether you like MySpace or not.

I notice no one is suspicious that this is a reaction to the McCain site vandalism. By controlling the files and possibly limiting the ability to replace images they'll keep this from becoming a common problem.

Ok guys, this is what it?s all about $$$$$$$$$$$$..Myspace was first started from SPAM for SPAM, the whole idea of this site was to make MONEY, like any site its money that drive it.I own about 30+ sites, and 5 of them are Myspace Resource sites, you know the ones that you can copy and paste pre-made layouts, also the Thanks for the Add pics. We host your images like Photobucket, and all those kool little glitters. Well the way it works is, when you see an image or layout and paste that copde on your page, you will also see some text like, Hosted By Photobucket or what ever site you got the image from. This is there for us to get credit for that image and for hosting that image for you. When one puts that code into myspace, that image is NOT in myspace, but it's in our server. All we do is hotlink it for you. When this is done, this is costly for us in the form of BANDWIDTH, this bandwidth is measured on our servers and charged accordingly, so the more images use on your profile the more it costs us. We pick up the bill in order for you the myspace user to put that image on your server, that?s why a lot of those imageshave our domain name on them. The way we make our money back is, we hope that when you come back to our sites that you click an ad and we recover that cost. These sites are not here as a free service, in most cases it?s our livelihood, it?s what pays our mortgage, puts food on our plates and creates a lot of jobs down the chain. When photobucket was banned by myspace, it was nothing other then GREED andto make you use them and not what the people choose. What will be next will be sites like ours.Remember its called My Space. It was always the user ( you ) that decided to use us as a provider for your images, videos and layouts. This was always your right, now that right is being taken away from you. Now what I think should be done, ( and yes I have been talking to allot of other webmasters with sites like mine and yes BIG sites) is this!We are going to be working on a date to have all our images, videos and layouts shut down. What will this do?It will make 98% of all images, glitters, image cubes, pictures that you uploaded, music, music videos and layouts vanish, thus turning myspace into a wasteland..The only images visible will be the pics on ones profile...This will show myspace and everyone what it will look like if you no longer had the right to useour sites for your resources.. Remember those images are hosted on our servers NOT myspace, and we have the right to shut them down any time we wish.So if you want your rights back and still love your myspace account, now's the time to say it. Tell Comrade Tom that Communismis only in Cuba and stop being so greedy. OH one other piece of news for all you Tom lovers, Tom does not own or control myspace. He is just a MASKOT like, Jack in the box, Ronald McDonald or Colonel Sanders. He is NOT real, just some dude that worked there years ago. It?s old news that its owned by News Corp, FOX. A billion dollar Corp, and what other reason would they want moreControl, but again for more money. Have to keep the stock holders happy, Think they care about making you happy, yeah ok think twice.. They just want to bring more money. The same idea as buying out Public Telivision and Turning it into FOX.Myspace will never be the same from here on.. They should call it OurSpace. One other thing, have some of you have gotten messages from Comrade Tom that your account got PHISHED and is limited, well here is another fact. This was a big screw up for myspace, they have been working so hard at trying to control spam that they have installed so many text filters for words like, Ring Tone, PS3, Layouts, Offers, and some urls, that when you send out a few bulletins or comments to your real friends that contain any one of those words, your account becomes flagged and the system simplylimits your account. Myspace will never take the blame for this, but instead blame it onthe BAD GUY?s ( the spammers ). Take note that myspace was created for spam with spam, but that?s another story..Hope I have educated allot of you on some real crap that goes on behind the scene, and is a wake up call for all you die hard myspacers..Enjoy

Yeah. Even the people who didn't use myspace the first time around at my school are using facebook. It is more ergonomic.

<a class="user" href="http://freemyspace.com/history.htm">http://freemyspace.com/history.htm</a>Why not learn about myspace from the man who started it, Mr. Brad GreenspanRead that link and you will learn all about MySpace right from the source. He is the "real" Tom.BTW, Social networking went out long ago. our sitespaces.net website hardly gets visitors anymore. In 2005 if was hot with 100s of people every day.MySpace is trying to pick up people from non-English speaking parts of the world now to make up for the loss in page views, but it won't work, mainly because they are not bandwagon jumping sheeple. The fad is starting to die, the bubble starting to burst. What's next?I hope it's not the semantic web.
