juancole.com — Muslim denunciations of terrorism do not make front page news, while actual terrorist attacks do. Juan Cole addresses the myth that no major Muslim cleric or religious body has ever issued a fatwa against terrorism. Providing references, he cites a long list of such fatwas and quotations from religious leaders.

Sorry for abusing the comment system."Juan Ricardo I. Cole is a professor of Modern Middle East and South Asian History in the History Department at the University of Michigan. Since 2002, he has written a popular weblog, Informed Comment [1]. As an expert and commentator on Middle Eastern affairs, he has appeared in print and on television, and testified before the U.S. Senate."

Well, it isn't like the intentions had any basis in religion to begin with, so I see no reason why they would be, other than making the excuse harder to make. But then again, it just lets them say they're more pure than all the other Muslims.

>it's just that the vast majority don't (I'd bet more support the attacks than don't)You'd lose your bet. Especially since you base it on nothing but ignorance. I live in malaysia, where not only the majority are muslims but even the constitution says its an islamic country. Yet, I've not met a single muslim who praises these attacks. Out of the millions, even in the radical muslim newspapers here, you can't find it.Which hat did you pull hat "a vast majority don't" statement.

A quote from a "This is London" article published in 2004:"But Sayful and his friends laugh at the idea that they are local pariahs. "The mosques say one thing to the public, and something else to us. Let's just say that the face you see and the face we see are two different faces," says Abdul Haq. "Believe me," adds Musa, "behind closed doors, there are no moderate Muslims."<a class="user" href="http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-10329634-details/Terror+on+the+dole/article.do">http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-10329634-details/Terror+on+the+dole/article.do</a>

Sheik Muhammad Hussain Fadlallah is on that list!!! That guy is an Islamacist supreme - an enemy of the United States!What...and these are the friendly Muslims?

True and valid.. I had been veiwing that all Muslim's were somehow inter related (not by blood) and were always in agreement.. So that is a misconception that has been corrected. So do you view the leaders in your country the ones you listen to or just your town?
