thinkprogress.org — VIDEO: Today on MSNBC, Rep. John Murtha said there is ?no question in my mind that John Kerry supports the troops,? and that right-wing attacks on Kerry are ?just distracting from the real issue: the war on the ground.?

Maybe we all got it wrong. Maybe the joke was about our educational system?I mean John Kerry would know that 95% of our troops have a High School diploma, and 97.5% of our Military Officers have a College degree. So maybe what he's saying is that even though most of our troops hold degrees, those diploma's just aren't worth anything.Still, I don't think it's very funny, and he should apologize.

Kerry saying that he left out the word "us" does not not make what he said into a joke. Someone explain it to me. He has his Vietnam mentality of when there was a GI deferment if a person was going to college. Thus, dumb troops who could not take advantage of the situation. I believe this is what still clouds Kerry's view of our troops. He can't acknowledge that over 95% have high school diplomas and they are all volunteer. If you add the supposedly left out "us" word, then is the joke supposed to mean that if you don't study hard and make yourself smarter you get elected President of the United States and you send the troops to get stuck in Iraq. That's funny? To who?
