engadget.com — You've seen our hands-on first impressions, now check the video summary of the new multi-touch, glass trackpad featured on Apple's new MacBooks. It covers 2-, 3-, and 4- finger gestures in addition to the traditional 1 finger gestures some of you would like to direct towards Steve for all those glossy displays.

once you get in the habit of using gestures, they become alot more natural than having to struggle to push multiple keys on the keypad. The gestures become second nature and you really dont even have to think about them once you get into the habit of using them. I don't think keyboard shortcuts are faster, when i am using my laptop i always have my hand on the trackpad, but my hands rarely rest on the keyboard. these trackpad gestures let you easily use your computer with only 1 hand, which can be nice if you are on the phone or casually on your computer on autopilot.

surprisingly they are pretty nice. It feels like I just "sweep" away the windows to see the desktop.

Hammertime!

What I don't get is the current laptops already have the two fingered scroll and two finger right click. Is that not multi-touch? Could someone write a 3rd party app to simulate this?

That's an even scarier thought...

Well I'm not saying a mouse will empty your battery in 30 minutes, of course not. But it is a USB peripheral with a signaling chip and a light, and that can't have zero effect on battery life. When in a situation where you need to work for a few hours with no power outlet within reach of the cord, using the trackpad instead of a mouse makes a difference.
