There are differences between the technologies, but I think the similarity (giving developers a choice to bring more weight to the client) is a trend which if used correctly can make the Web even better than the great success it already is. I just hope we won't end up again with commercial agendas creating incompatible standards. I recommend also taking a look at JNEXT ( <a class="user" href="http://jnext.org">http://jnext.org</a> ) - an open source project that also build around this "weight shift" concept.
