news.com — lot of people appear to be bent out of shape about Apple using its auto-update service to distribute the Safari Web browser on Windows. The CEO of Mozilla, which makes the rival Firefox browser, calls it bad business.

Learn how to do a custom install.

The reason OS X users hate Firefox is because of the way Firefox renders web pages. Simply put, if you open the same page in Safari and Firefox side by side you will see how crappy Firefox looks. This is why so many Safari users bash Firefox. For Safari users it's not about how many plugin's you can install and customize the browser. It's about how pages look in the browser. Windows users like to tweak things far more and on a much grander sccale than your typical Apple users. This is what makes Firefox a very popular browser regardless of it's lack of rendering prowess.

I too have for years grown tired of Apple's relentless attempts to slowly commandeer a system. I believe the way that Apple distributes it's Plan takes heavy advantage of the average naive computer user, only for Apple's personal gain. Many of you here work with clients, family and friends who call upon you for help on a regular basis. you know the user that I talk about. We all know this type of user will blindly do the Safari install without even understanding what it is to begin with. In not making the Safari 'update install' unclear as to it's need or function, Apple supports my argument and has made a decision that is leading themselves down the wrong path, I have not read enough about the Safari PC install, does it "Take Over" as the system's primary browser? I suspect that is might. Undoubtedly, the total aggregate of wasted hours of all of us correcting this issue alone for our clients, friends and family, will add up to huge loses in productivity and work for our nation as a whole. If I recall this correctly, doesn't this comes from a man who in "The Soul of a New Machine" worried about the lost productivity that an extra 5 seconds of OS boot time might cost as a whole? "Don't take a Bite of the Apple!" - We all know what it did for a couple going by the names of Adam and Eve!

@SupaDawg: Really, and what movie is 'skilled1' from? Oh, that's right, it's not from a movie. Thanks SupaDawg for proving my point.@Sidzilla: Wow, funny how people like to skirt issues by trying to insult others. Fact is ANOTHER web browser means more work for no reason for developers to test. period. As well as Apple's latest 'updates' are no updates but the installation of new software. You sir, also need to learn commonplace internet terminology.

I was trying to be sarcastic. Guess I failed.
