i.gizmodo.com — Here you see a movie ticket and kernel popcorn, as scaled to their price increase over the past 80 years. Needless to say, things have changed. In 1929, The Great Depression popularized popcorn as a movie time treat since it was cheap, easy, tasty and somewhat filling. Back then, a bag cost you 5 cents. Now, a (small) bag costs you $4.75.

See, again, this is where inflation = stupid. It shouldn't affect bags of popcorn exponentially.

That's why I sneak my own goodies into the theater. Paying $30 bucks for 2 IMAX tickets(Me & my Girl), $5.75 for popcorn, $4.75 for a 32oz soda. All of this after I just shelled out 60 bucks on dinner at the Outback Steak house. And once you add in the $50 dollar 8th of weed(A prerequisite for any major blockbuster), the real cost to see a movie in America is actually around $150. Ofcourse it's much cheaper if you're single but going to the movie blows without having a hot date(for those of us above 25).

i go to the theater to watch movies. not to eat.

lol, inflation is understated currently because of goods shipped from China. Still, the price of popcorn going up is more of a reflection of the increase in the cost of "live" entertainment. Try going to a sports event or a concert and you see the same cost bum,p on concessions. They know you have few choices.

Actually, the value of goods stays the same, the it's the value of the dollar that just keeps falling. A bar of gold today buys just as much as it did 100 years ago. That's why I'm really pissed that the Fed keeps printing more fake money, which makes the fake money I have worth less. It's time to re-adopt a gold standard for our country before the dollar gets any more impotent.
