ohvec.org — Mountaintop removal -- the name says it all -- is the most ruthless method yet found to extract coal as quickly and as cheaply as possible. That it happens at all is an outrage. That it happens in one of North America?s most biologically diverse ecosystems is heartbreaking.

Some people just don't get it. We really need to be more fussy who we allow to lead our nations. Clearly politicians are not qualified to do so. It may be helpful to prosecute them for lying to the voters rather than just to their peers. I would not object to putting them on a lie-detector either..... unless they are American in which case I would prefer a non-torture method such as water-boarding.Lies and corruption are the greatest enemies to democracy - not terrorism. Bush is the perfect example of what I mean. He is by any reasonable measure a criminal in so many spheres he deserves a medal for setting a new record. Previous winners are Hitler, Stalin, Napoleon, Genghis Khan, Walt Disney and Barbie.

You whine and cry about this as you sit on your power hungry PC while listening to your kickin stereo in a room with all the lights on. Where the hell do you think power comes from? It's not magic guys. If you tree huggers really want a clean burning fuel then back the use of nuclear energy,

For those who live in the California Bay Area and think it won't happen here, think again. It may not be for coal, but the end result is nearly the same:http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=37.327103,-122.088146&spn=0.059993,0.1054&t=h&z=14&om=1

"That it happens in one of North America ’s most biologically diverse ecosystems is heartbreaking."One of? But that's what they said about the barren pile of iced over rocks that is ANWR. That's what they said about the gulf coast. That's what they said about the Pacific Northwest. That's what they said about... oh you get the picture. The picture you're not getting is what this land looks like after reclamation. That is, after the mining companies plant trees and foilage and pull out of the area. You'd never know there was a mountain top there to begin with.
