sciencedaily.com — In a startling result, a new study found that more than 80 percent of the world's major armed conflicts from 1950-2000 occurred in regions identified as the most biologically diverse and threatened places on Earth.

Forgot to add that it's always all about the money.

One imagines it excludes the rich nations and their rich cities, for starters. Concrete jungles and tar paved roads survive while forests and life and species are lost.

No - rich biological regions do not "grow" weapons.

Animals never refrain from any action that will spread their own genes. Lions kill all the pride's young when they take it over, for example. Chimpanzees routinely try (and succeed) in wiping out neighboring chimp groups, without provocation.Read "The Selfish Gene" some time.If we can accept our own nature we can work with it and do great things. Denial never helped anyone. I'm sorry if this worldview seems harsh. In some sense, it is. It is also absolutely correct.

All too true for comfort. When it comes to death/war/genocide people cant really wrap their minds around how it is. Having a general "death map" along with different forms such as casualty of war, genocide, death in combat, etc... could yield surprising results.

NO -- I'm not saying he HAS to do it. I'm saying that he is between a rock and a hard place.IF he does the right thing, he will be slammed by the Corporate press.I didn't notice all the protesting going on, when in 2001, the Pentagon via spokesman Donald Rumsfeld, said it couldn't account for about $2 Trillion. Of course, the next day was 9/11 -- so I can understand the distraction. But when the bankster bailout went through, the world was stood on its head; the Democrats were supporting the Economic Royalists in their bailout, while the Republicans were smugly not supporting it -- like the usual election year politicking -- whoever is vulnerable stands on the sidelines, while those who are not up for re-election or are not in danger of losing vote for whatever pork-laden bill is up at base. However, it looked to me like they had a gun to their head. You aren't a big spender if you got mugged.>> Obama would do well, however, to not try to please the robber barons and Republicans. For one thing -- they will be attacking him anyway. And if he doesn't do right by the people, and investigate BushCo crimes -- he will be attacked from the left. Only by going hard against the crooks, can he keep the support of his base, and keep the bad guys busy. And of course, stay away form windows.

That's by no means automatically the case. San Francisco bay, for instance, is a very important wetland for migratory birds.
