I pray for the death of this web 2.0 fad. It has produced nothing but cookie cutter websites that all rely on pseudo shiny gradient logos, easter egg pastel palettes and icons with little bathroom-sign like men.Go to the official johnnycash.com site, saw a story on the guy who made that being from my town. Now THAT is good web design. It has personality and is not soul-less trash.
I know I love sites that have useless intro pages, are designed entirely in flash, that start playing music as soon as I open up the site, open up a new window if I click on just about any link, and that have stupid little flashy things follow around my cursor. Good web design there.
I hate that the term "web 2.0" is often used to describe a certain web-design style. However, the clients want a "web 2.0" website with shiny graphics, icons, etc. So that's what we do.
"have useless intro pages" - Yes how dare websites be fun and entertainingIntro pages aren't fun or entertaining, they're forcing you to click on an extra link to see any sort of content."designed entirely in flash" - well if you are not using a modern computer with a modern browser well get with the timesIt's fine to use flash as part of your site, but creating the entire site in flash will just make a confusing interface (like in the site you metioned, I couldn't find the menu because it was hidden behind a bunch of useless animations)"start playing music as soon as I open the site" a site about a musician should not play music?A site about a musician can play music...just not as soon as the page loads. Add in a music player at the top/bottom (a very good use for flash), but having sound play the second a page loads is really irritating, especially if there is no obvious way to turn it off (like in the johnnycash.com).
