"The more people putting money into the economy the more successful it would be. . .so what is the problem with providing people with the best opportunity to retain good health and be able to contribute to the physical and intellectual workforce and contribute to the economy?" If it is voluntary, that is fine. If it truly would provide a better opportunity, that would be fine. Unfortunately, neither is true with the healthcare bills being proposed in Washington.

Not all of the founders agree on what the General Welfare clause meant, Alexander Hamilton believed this "The only qualification of the generallity of the Phrase in question, which seems to be admissible, is this--That the object to which an appropriation of money is to be made be General and not local; its operation extending in fact, or by possibility, throughout the Union, and not being confined to a particular spot.No objection ought to arise to this construction from a supposition that it would imply a power to do whatever else should appear to Congress conducive to the General Welfare. A power to appropriate money with this latitude which is granted too in express terms would not carry a power to do any other thing, not authorised in the constitution, either expressly or by fair implication."To me, it sounds like any measure that helps the general welfare of the entire population is authorized by the Constitution. Anyway, the point is that that statement is open to interpretation. http://press-pubs.uchicago.edu/founders/documents/ ...

"Things like building and fire codes make sense to protect people. Where I draw the line is where the government makes choices about my own health."Seriously? Are you people *still* getting this wrong?ATTENTION: THE GOVERNMENT WILL NOT MAKE DECISIONS ABOUT YOUR HEALTH. THEY WILL ONLY MANAGE PAYMENT. THE DOCTOR AND YOU DECIDE WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR HEALTH.Please stop making this strawman argument. (As the poll does, by using this bulls**t right-wing "government-run health care" mantra.)

Gallup has very long standing history of close friendship with Republicans. Also pretty conservative Christian management.

MSUKateThe reason might be that liberals are the only people who are actually capable of basic reasoning AND not greedy as f**k.When these people squeal like a pig about the liberal bias in universities, they don't realize that if you put a lot of smart people together whose main object in life is NOT about getting as much money as possible, but to teach, to do research, and in general, to make a difference, you basically selected liberals from the general population.
