sysinternals.com — Mark Russinovich has another article about the dangerous patch that released by SONY/BMG. He also confirms that the malware sends something back to SONY's server. Make sure to take a look at the comment posted by XCP support. It basically says ... TRUST us in everything we did.

How does this stuff not meet the legal definition of illegal spyware? Shouldn't some class-action lawyers be smelling blood on this one?

Write to your member of congress about this. While congress can't stop companies from using annoying DRM, they could pass a law that forces companies to fully disclose everything they're putting on your computer. Or they could pass a law making rootkits illegal.

So why would anyone install this software? Just hold down shift on loading it and open it with your favorate player, or better yet ripper? I'll never buy another Sony CD.

I wonder how much rootkits were sneaked onto my computer while I was installing Sony SonicStage...http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/5969/ss8sy.gif

Mark Russinovich, where would we be without you?Anyone interested in Windows programming should check out the "Windows Internals" book that he co-authored. This guy knows more about Windows than the engineers that wrote the darn thing.
