This is excellent advice. It's the same advice touted by investment experts such as Andrew Tobias. I'm not sure whether I agree about the student loans bit, but I do think that if you're using the money you could be using to pay off the student loans to invest in other opportunities, then it is a good use of the money. Your investments should get a return that is higher than the APR of your student loans. Otherwise, you should probably just put the money toward the student loans and eat fewer Doritos.
