physorg.com — In a study of more than 7000 people aged 20-24, 40-44 and 60-64, researchers found that moderate drinkers are better thinkers than heavy drinkers (no surprise here) and those who do not drink at all. "This does not necessarily show that moderate alcohol use is good for our brains."

Until I hit the quote, “This does not necessarily show that moderate alcohol use is good for our brains," I thought this might be the best study ever. Maybe the guy that was quoted was a non-drinker and therefor not a very good thinker.

I read recently that one night of heavy drinking can impair your ability to think creatively for up to 30 days. This would seem to jive with what this article is saying.

Headline contradicts quote in blurb. Hence, it is inaccurate.

"Moderate drinkers are smart enough to not drink a lot."I guess they thought a headline saying the exact same thing but praising alcohol would catch more eyes?

One afternoon at Cheers, Cliff Clavin was explaining the Buffalo Theory to his buddy Norm. Here's how it went: "Well ya see, Norm, it's like this... A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers."
