xbox-scene.com — Hours before the raids were news and broadcast across the net and the mass media, an XS member (FallsInc) tried to warn those of us in the inner circle that the noose was about to tighten around US Modchip shops. The following is a firsthand account, written in his own words of the last 24 or so hours in the life of FallInc.

yes and the first goal is always for "backups"...how many people do you think use this feature for backups? I used to do this like crazy on earlier systems (I don't think my XBOX had it's case on in over a year) and have a custom OS on my PSP and I have no illusions that it is well within Sony's right to try stop the modders (see: Dark Alec departure). I agree that homebrew is awsome but if Sony finds a way to brick my system, I wouldn't blame them.Go to any modders forum and tell me what the topic for 99% of the posts are..."How do I copy X game to work on my system"It's alway the same sad defence.

"PAID FOR OR LEGALLY RENTED VIDEOS"One other thing, genius, what kind of legally rented videos are you allowed to keep stored on your 360? Did you "rent" them online? Do you have a license agreement that allows you to have a stored copy of a rented movie on your hard drive? Because if you rented it, you wouldn't have the right to keep it saved since you need to legally own a hard copy of a movie if you're going to save a copy as "back up".I'm starting to think you don't have a clue about copyright laws... ;)

According to your logic I could buy any game, develop an expansion for it without anybody's consent, and sell it. I BOUGHT THE GAME SO ITS MINE THUS I CAN DO WHAT I WANT!!!Anyways, look if these excuses let you sleep at night then all the power to you.

Not a big fan of restricting consumer freedom to modify their property. If you're going to criminalize (a la DMCA) the production and sale of devices enabling circumvention for personal use then you should criminalize (by an equally heavy-handed Consumer Freedom Act of some sort) companies selling locked down products. The government and corporations have no right to exist of their own accord. It is _purely_ at the pleasure of the people that these institutions are founded and allowed to persist. That we forget this is shame upon us and them.

We paid taxes for our items, we should be able to do as we please as long as that it doesn't interfere with anyone. Strange i don't see people getting messed with when they put a car engine in a different car, or a different pair of speakers with a different stereo. is it me or are mother f**kers around us getting really f**king nitt-picky!

FYI, law enforcement doesn't do things to be "nice" and help you make the "right decision". They do what they do in order to build a solid case against you. This guy will have no defense at this point. He gave up everything.

Last I checked, music isn't a game, its music. While I support the backing up of both video games AND music, I do not support the ignorant assumption that both fall within the same set of laws, because they do not. Since everyone likes to bring up cars, think of a normal license, for normal cars; then think of a trucker's license, for driving trucks.
