treehugger.com — Phone batteries are not very good- they are 'expensive, consuming valuable resources on manufacturing, presenting a disposal problem and harmful to the environment.' So Daizi Zheng designed a cell phone to run on Coke. The "bio battery has the potential to operate three to four times longer on a single charge than conventional lithium batteries."

"HAS THE POTENTIAL to operate three to four times longer" I don't see any actual performance figures on the page. It would also be nice for them to at least link to an explanation to how this works and how they came up with their figures.

OMFG reading those comments hurts my brain. Well over 90% of them are completely wrong...I didnt know this, but apparently there is such a thing as CSP (C++ Server Pages)http://www.micronovae.com/CSP.htmlI dont know how well it works, or what, but it seems like a good idea. Half of the comments there are yapping on about how the C++ would have to be recompiled every time, while an ass tonne of others claim that the majority of the work is database hits (majority, yes probably. To the extent they make it sound, nope). Is 75% a generous figure? Most certainly. But given that many benchmarks show that compiled languages for the web consistently run at least twice as fast, the ability to cut down the servers by 30% is not unrealistic. Thanks for that article link.

I'm a bit surprised by the lack of imagination in these responses. Of course this is science fiction but such fiction could very well become reality in due time. It's simply a series of energy conversions in a very small form factor. Future "bioelectronic" devices might even be able to utilize sugar natively as a fuel source.

can't you just pour some tap water and sugar into it?While I DO think its a very cool idea its also a disingenuous statement to say it runs 3 times longer than the lithium battery without also being clear that its WELL OVER 3 times the volume of the lithium battery as well.

i dont get it

but this is going to cut down on the earth's supply of coke.

Yes,probably batteries can be harmful to the environment if they are not properly disposed. So we must correctly aware on how to dispose them.
